JACKKNIFE Walkthrough
JACKKNIFE is a short road horror visual novel. You are walking a snowy highway, a semi has jackknifed across the road, and a trucker named Jackie picks you up. The script is short and readable, and it tracks almost everything through a single number.
The demo currently in circulation ends inside the cabin sequence, so this guide covers the routes the script actually implements rather than a full ending list. Everything below comes from the recovered script file.
The road and the hitchhike
You begin by naming yourself, then the script asks how you want to reach the wreck. Taking the shorter path sets ShortPath to true and puts you at the jackknifed blue semi with no phone battery left. The other route keeps you on the long way round.
Whichever way you arrive, the semi is empty. A trooper tells you the cab was empty when they got there and that it is the same pattern every time — a truck jackknifes and by the time police arrive, there is no driver. He offers four explanations, from psychosis to a ghost to a serial killer.
The gas station
On the short path you stop at a gas station, and a couple invites you back to their cabin. The script lets you refuse them outright. If you go in, a snack menu offers gummy worms, chips, almond joy and trail mix, and only one of them does anything: picking the almond joy sets the flag GotShittyTaste.
Jackie is waiting in the truck when you come back out, and the dynamic has already shifted. She calls you Honeypie from this point on.
The questions you can ask
Conversation is not freeform. The script builds a list of topics, removes each one as you spend it, and loops until the list is empty. The first set is her age, whether she usually picks up hitchhikers, and whether she ever gets lonely out there.
A second list opens later with family, the killings, where she is from, and whether she has ever been in love. Once both lists are spent, the radio cuts to a news report: a snowstorm is expected in two days, and the Jackknife Killer has still not been found. Jackie changes the station.
The key, and the hunger counter
Inside the trailer you find her key ring and can pocket one key with havekey. That choice is kept, though the demo does not resolve it. The number that does decide things is hunger.
Three separate menu choices raise it by one, including going outside after a crash against the truck, which puts you in the snow watching Jackie stand over a man with his neck under her boot. When hunger reaches three, the demo ends badly: she comes to you in the dark and bites your shoulder while apologising, and the script marks it plainly as the bad end. Any lower value and you instead lie still, listen to her fight something on the other side of the room, and fall asleep.
Tips before you start
- Watch the
hungercounter. Three is the bad end, and every point comes from a choice you actively pick rather than from a failure. - The short path sets
ShortPathand is the route that opens the gas station scene and the almond joy flag. - Questions are a finite resource — each topic is removed once spent, and the news report that follows the last one carries real plot information.
- This build is a demo and ends inside the cabin. The full games list has the games with complete route lists.
