Gentle Fall Walkthrough
Gentle Fall opens on a first-year student waking to a phone alarm in early September, on a day with a workshop to attend and a coffee to order on the way. The first thing the script does is hand you three setup menus before anything has happened at all.
The build currently in circulation stops partway through the story, at the end of chapter four. That matters for this guide: there are no ending labels to report, because the scripts do not define any. What they do define is a small set of variables that quietly change how Chester treats you for the rest of the run.
The first morning
Chapter zero is built around a mirror and an alarm. The narration sets the tone plainly — another September, a boring life — before the first menu appears and immediately checks your mood. The frame below is the bedroom itself, with the line about another long day ahead.
Three setup menus, and what they set
The first menu is about the workshop. Saying that meeting new people is nice sets mcPersonality to assertive; picking the option about not being enthusiastic about the talking sets it to shy. The script reassigns this variable later in the same chapter as new information arrives, so it is not fixed after the opening.
The second menu is the mirror. Whether there is a gap above your reflection, whether your frame fits, or whether you fill the whole mirror sets mcHeight to short, average or tall, and the chapter immediately branches on that value rather than just recording it. The third menu is the coffee counter, setting mcPreference to black coffee, latte, or matcha latte.
How you meet Chester
Chester arrives later in the chapter, and the script tracks the moment with chFirstImpression. The menu offers three reactions — Kind, Intimidating or Beautiful — and the value is carried forward rather than resolved on the spot. Alongside it the script toggles a chesterHeadTilt flag repeatedly to drive his sprite.
The height choice pays off at your first real sight of him. Looking up to meet the tired eyes of a very tall man, as in the frame below, is the same beat rendered differently depending on how tall you told the game you are.
Chapters and where the build stops
The scripts are split into five chapter files. Each later chapter sets a number and a subtitle that the chapter screen displays: chapter two is Snow, chapter three Sunlight and chapter four Autumn rain. Chapter zero hands off to chapter one directly, and each chapter jumps to the next.
Because the preview ends inside chapter four, there is no ending table to reproduce and no good or bad route to describe. Treat the variables above as the durable state that carries between chapters. The last frame shows the in-game profile card used to introduce Chester, listing him at 6'4" and noting you already know him as a classmate.
Tips before you start
- Your
mcPersonalitychoice is not permanent. The chapter overwrites it later as the situation develops, so expect the opening mood to be revised. - Only
mcHeightis read back and branched on immediately. It changes how the tall scenes are framed from the first meeting onward. - This build has no endings defined in the scripts yet. Any claim of an ending list for this chapter set would be invented rather than read from the game.
- Read the how to play page for the browser controls before you start, then compare notes on screenshots.
Route notes written from the game's own script.
